New Multiplication Center Your Students Will Love!

My students need year long multiplication practice. I have a ton to fun multiplication centers, that I rotate in and out. I am always trying to think up fun new ways for my students to practice multiplication facts. My favorite centers are the ones that are no prep and keep my kiddos engaged.

My students LOVE my Multiplication Roll an Array Center! This two player game requires students to create arrays, and then find the total number of squares within the array. There is also a little strategy and luck involved too which makes it super fun! All you need in 2 dice, graph paper and couple colored pencils. Click here to download how to play!

How do you use multiplication centers in your classroom? Do you rotate them out weekly? Please let me know in the comments below.

Flying Feathers

I am completely obsessed with designing more snowball games because my students absolutely LOVE my original snowball games. Not only do my kiddos beg to play, they are completely engaged. My students work hard to earn snowball fight time, usually about 1-2 times a week. Here is the thing I love, they are begging to do math! Since our fourth grade is departmentalized, it is sometimes possible for me to squeeze in quick game at the end of class. Recently, I have had students write their answers on post-it note exit slips. Click here to checkout my whole collection of snowball games.

I wanted to create a seasonal version of my snowball fight, so I created Place Value: Flying Feathers. I have created 100 feather pages which require students to either read or write numbers between 1,000 and 1,000,000 (4.NBT.2). In this game, feather will fly.

I also created 2nd Grade Place Value: Snowball Fight (2.NBT.3). This game contains 60 snowballs featuring numerals between 1-500. The numbers are represented in word form, expanded form and picture form.

Factors & Multiples

I am so excited about two new games I created.

In years past, I have had some students who have had difficulty remembering the difference between factors and multiples. They understand both concepts, but they just keep mixing up the vocabulary. To help my students visualize the word multiple, I created my Multiple Mountain math center. The board for this activity is a large mountain. Students draw a card, and then climb the mountain by writing the multiples of a number on the card. Multiple Mountain

I also created a factor matching game designed to build understanding of the concept of factors. The game contains 30 jars and lids. Each jar is filled with fireflies marked with the factors of a specific number. Students match a lid labeled with a composite number under 50 to the correct jar filled with fireflies. This game is also designed to help students remember the difference between factors and multiples. The firefly factors inside the jar help students visualize factors as numbers inside a number. Quick Change

Now that I am a blogger I wanted to share one of my best inventions of the 2012-2013 school year. This was a HUGE time saver for me! Are you ready for it? Last year, when we departmentalized I gave the reading teacher most of my books for her classroom library so that I could fill my shelves with math manipulatives. Afterward, I had a whole bunch of bookends and no books. On a whim, I grabbed a tube of hard as nails and glued the bookends to the back of a stack of clipboards. Now, changing out center directions is quick and easy.
